Leaf Litter Toad
come
look where I'm pointing
by the trail
between those two bushes
hiding in the leaf litter
careful
no sudden moves
we might scare it
still no?
stand in front of me
follow my finger
it's watching us too
barely breathing
that leaf
with eyes
do you see it?
* The author writes: "This poem is about maybe the first or second time my now wife and I went on a nature walk way back when we met."
