And the Giants Still Stand
I went to visit the giants today—
and would you believe it—
they still stand.
Their fingers still sift day-old raindrops
into mist that shepherds sunlight down,
and the morning dirt still steams at their feet.
The banana slugs still meet with their friends,
and I am careful not to step on them.
They still take their time.
The mothering sea still sends her fog
to tuck the giants into their mountains,
and the mountains still hold them.
The fog still comes,
and the slugs still gather,
and the giants still stand
