Julian O'Dea
Our Old Suburb

The volcanic city centre spread
development like lava
covering places and memories,
play paths and lanes went under
concrete, also little streams
of life, paths known to children,
cats and lizards were lost.
The muddy creek that changed
every time rain came,
remoulded by playful creation,
was sealed and damned and
tamed.
