“... you can’t argue with the fact that Donald Trump is inarguably, peerlessly great at making deals... ”
// from "Burial of the Lede"
Donald Trump's election is a monkey that's hard to shake off the back of one's attention. Sit down these days to write a romantic sonnet, an Olympian ode, or a nature-embellishing open-field free verse text, and you may find that your thoughts inerrantly drift back to the topic of politics. Let this handful of poems be entered into evidence as yet another exhibit making the case that it's hard to think about anything else.
No discussion of Trumpoetry is complete without acknowledgement of the new verse form invented early in 2017 by Niall O'Sullivan, and given the name "#trumpigram" by its creator. (The hashtag symbol should be considered part of its standard spelling.) Several examples of O'Sullivan's work with the #trumpigram are included in this chapbook, serving as informational foreword and as epigrams for all writing in this post-truth era. |
